An Ice breaker is one the way from Quebec and will arrive at 7:00 pm tonight.

There is a traveling entertainment group on board that won't make the show in PEI I'm afraid.

The Backyardigans? spelling?

The Medusa Conquest was stuck in the ice just off Charlevoix for the last two days. A 180 foot bouy tender broke her out this morning. She was headed to the cement plant here.  I might go down to the plant and get a picture of the Conquest. She is a tug and barge composite.

I took a bunch of pictures. I forgot the name of the composite changed when the company sold.  Her  new name is St. Mary's Conquest.

The barge was an old lake freighter that was converted to a rigid tug and barge. The stern was cut out so that the tug can slid right inside the barge. It's then shackled together effectively making it one unit.

Hey Dana, got any more pics on that barge/freighter?
They were suposed to start dredging the Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon channels this week after all the groundings last summer and fall.
Sounds like the dredging is being delayed a bit and Muskegon's has been postphoned for a while. ::)

I've been out to the Grand Haven pier several times over the last couple months watching the ice.
Last time out was two weeks ago and I took my sister out there for her first climb on the ice hills.
There was open water halfway down the peir then, so I figure there isn't a whole lot of ice now, but it looks like you still have a lot up there yet.

I  don't care what kind of ship you're riding,  when the screws come out of the water, it's rough. ::)

SwampDonkey

As long as they aren't jumping out of the boat.  ;D

I been on that old Ferry that sunk out in BC, the Queen of Prince Rupert, and she would vibrate and squeak like the dickens, even in calm seas.  :D

I've been on a Ferry across to Newfoundland 24 years ago and remember the whales. :)

I think you will find the video has been mis-identified.

I beleive that it's a freight ferry called the Suilven leaving Wellington harbor here in New Zealand.

And even the storm they were sailing through.

QuoteThe following pictures show the "Suilven" hitting heavy swell as it exited Wellington Heads and entered Cook Strait, early afternoon 6 February 2002.

You want some rough water, come visit NZ  ;) ;D

It didn't look like the Caribou, but Marine Atlantic does operate 4 ferries and mostly freight to Nfld.

Yeah they got free Friday I think.

Here are the rates, one way from North Sydney, N.S. to Port aux Basques, N. L.

Plus 5.3 % fuel surcharge on all rates. No HST tax unless using accommodations.

If I remember, it's a 9 hr ride.

Here is another photo of the barge. I  am going to start a post called ice caves to show those pictures. Don't want to hijack your thread too much Swamp Donkey. :)
