Sometimes when a pine tree rots and the sapwood is separated from the heartwood, some short branches will separate from the heartwood. One end of the branch is often very dense with rosin because it originated from where the tree had its beginning at the pith.  My question is does this piece of wood have a scientific name or a common name?  I read of them years ago and cannot fine my source. I have some large ones from an old growth forest and would like to be able to tell people exactly what they are.  thanks
