Well, I finally broke down and got internet at the house (after much whining by my "better half").  Can't watch youtube videos....it's telling me I either have javascript turned off, or need the latest edition of flash player.  I tried downloading the latest flash player I don't know how many times.  The security thing pops up, and I take care of that and click to install, but nothing happens.  Within a second or two of clicking the install button in the little security popup (hope that makes sense) the site says it was downloaded.  We downloaded the latest adobe reader from the same site no problem, but the flash player just isn't happening.  Any ideas?

What browser are you using?

ohsoloco

That sounds like a technical question...you can see why I'm having trouble with this  :D

Using internet explorer

The current version of Java is (Version 6 Update 13).

This can be downloaded from www.java.com .

For Flash I would recommend www.filehippo.com . Look at the top right for Most popular downloads. It is listed as #2 (for IE).

What version of Windows are you running? If not XP or (Vista) maybe the older versions (98) are not supported--but I really don't know if this could be the problem.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

Running windows XP.  Saved the flash player uninstaller and ran it this time before downloading flash player 10.  It actually seemed like it was downloading this time, but then a little window popped up saying "Download interrupted.  Please check internet connection and try again."  Could the fact that I'm on a wireless connection have anything to do with this?

My guess is YES. I'd try again early tomorrow morning if possible.

Is this a laptop and is it plugged into wall power?  Could be going to sleep on you and interrupting the download?

ohsoloco

Yep, it's a laptop, and it's not plugged into the wall.  If the computer is plugged in, it wants a wired connection, and in order to run it wireless we need to run it on the battery.  I wasn't involved in the wireless router hook up, so maybe I'll get my better half to hard wire it and then try the download.

Jeff

There shouldn't be any reason for the wireless connection not to work with it plugged in.

Yeah, it actually is plugged in.

Well, I went to the troubleshooting page, and it recommended downloading the installer, it's a zip file.  When I open it the thing starts, and then says failed to install.  Many years ago I recall having to run a program to unzip files...does that need to be done nowadays, or does it automatically unzip when you open it  ???

Warbird

Right clik on the zip file.  Is there an option to "Extract" or "Extract here"?

ohsoloco

I don't think so, but I can't check until I get home later tonight.  I know there was an open option, and that's what I used.  That brought the little progress box up, and after a couple seconds it says failed to install.  Last time I remember unzipping a file was about 20 years ago  ::)

It was Internet Explorer that was the problem.  Denise installed Firefox last night and was then able to install the new flash player.  Thanks for the help.
