I have never bought a load of logs to be delivered.  After a recent foray into sawing and selling ERC 1x6 I decided to see if I could find a supplier.  I have a guy not too far away who said he can deliver logs for $.30 per board foot on cedar scale.  I'm not sure yet how many logs that will be on a load.  So far he has just said he has a gooseneck trailer with stacks.  Does .30 sound good.  I told him I would prefer 8" or larger, but said I would take down to 6".

$.30 on the 2/3 cedar rule is dirt cheap. Snatch 'em up and don't say a word even if he sneaks in a few doty ones.

@Cedarman  might have have an idea, I'd don't know for MO.  In the east coast I'd say it is a deal, I think we could get $.60/bdft for cedar to exporters but that is doyle.  Cedar scale is much like international, going to favor the small highly tapered logs vs doyle.

Ahh, stavebuyer answered...well there it is.  It's a deal

Sorry about that. It works for me, but then I saved it as a pdf file and it opens on the web. Don't know how to share it with you.

Nebraska

Last bid I saw was a southern Missouri bid at .42 /bf,  I hope that deal is good  because the price is.

firefighter ontheside

Thanks @LeeB it worked that time

I'm sure it will be good at least this time.  He may raise the price next time.

There are a number of KY cedar specialty yards near me, 4 that I know of who buy it only. If you google "KY cedar, etc." you'll pull them up and can easily find the going rate. TN also has some cedar mills who buy based on tonnage and BF.
Also maybe the woodweb related listings?

Buy all you can at that price. I'm paying $0.65 international delivered for good logs. Sometimes you can find it a little cheaper, but not often. If I had someone willing to deliver for 0.30 I'd be throwing cash at them.

Sounds like you could buy every stick and resell what ya dont want for a markup.

I've wondered how it sells from small sawyers as I saw lots of it on FB Marketplace when I wasn't actually looking for it.

I havent had much luck selling cedar live edge slabs, but last month when I sawed some 1x6 guys were tripping over each other to buy it.  I expect that if I saw some soon, the same will happen again.  Maybe my price was too low before.  I'll have to evaluate that.

Having STL in yer back pocket makes for a much different lumber selling climate!
Here in poor mans country, very few have a wood hobby or any money either.
Over in LEX,KY (lala land money wise ;D)I tried posting some nice stuff on the board at a Woodcraft store- 60 miles west of me. Once it was free carving wood and they won't walk across the street, so to speak to come and get it.
Plus the never had a shop class world we live in means many, even those doing some wood hobby stuff don't know much about fetching wood other than the retail stores.

1x6 cedar boards around here go for roughly $1.25/BF. 8" x 8' 6" logs go for $0.65-0.75 BF delivered. $0.30 is a bargain.

Cedarman

Just talked to the biggest cedar buyer in the country in Ky. They are paying 90/ton or about $.45 per foot on cedar scale.
But they buy it all, rotten, good, and down to 4". They go through 25 tractor trailer loads a week.  They make shavings. They go through 30 or more loads of pine a week.
The highest is also in Ky at 150/ton, but it is for 5" and up 8'+ and must be good.
Their Nebraska mill is paying 68/ton, but the landowners give their cedar away.
ST. Louis area is a good place to sell cedar to some of the fence companies.  They usually buy tractor trailer loads at a time.
Oklahoma pays people to clear cut their cedar.  11 million acres waiting.  My son said he has many acres lined up to cut and grind.
We are currently paying $.55 on cedar scale, but almost all the cedar we buy is by the ton at $110. One guy has 500 acres to cut, so we should be in fat city for cedar for a while.
We sell most cedar at  $1.50 and up for 8'.  More for longer and wider.  Sold about 400,000 feet last year.
6" log yields a 4" x 4" post.  We are at $16.00 each for them.  Have you price treated posts lately.

$.30 on cedar scale is a great price. But it all depends on how much you can sell.
Raised beds are selling like hotcakes.  Full 2" x 6" x 8' and 2" x 8" x 8'.  They also buy a lot of 4' for the ends which allows you to get some good out of those low grade big logs.
1" x 6" x 8' is most common item we sell.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

firefighter ontheside

That's a lot of great info.  Thanks.
1x6 is going to be my target for cutting, but I will change for smaller or larger logs.  There is a guy selling 4x4x8 locally for $15.  I'm not sure how many he is selling, but that's his listed price.  If I get a good number of 6" logs I will make 4x4s.  If I don't have many 6" logs, I will just mill them into 1x4 or such.  Id rather have a good number of the same size instead of random sizes and a handful of 4x4s.  Are you drying or selling green?

All the cedar I sell is green. Don't sell yourself short on pricing. A 1x4 made from a 6" log is worth just as much as one from a 16" log. I sell mostly 1x4,5,6,and8 and a lot of 4x4 and 6x6. I even went up $0.25 a foot recently and the orders haven't slowed down.

I love cedar

Patrick, you've come a long way since you got your Norwood. I'm happy to see that. Keep on sawing!

Thanks. I try to soak up all the information I can here and apply it to my work at the mill. Customers say I cut nice lumber and I get a lot of repeats. My name is starting to get out in the local area and I'm getting a few custom jobs from the locals without advertising. I got a call to go back to my regular job last week, but I think I'm going to stick with this for a while. I'm covered up in orders and have found a few good sources for logs so I'm going to keep sawing full time and see what happens.
