I have a client with a large crotch that he'd like to see about having sawn.

Woodmizer LT40HDG25 / Stihl 066 alaskan
lots of dull bands and chains

Well, I don't usually work for money but I have an Alaskan that can make a 43" cut.
Where are they located?

If Jon can't do it, you can always have him trailer the log down to me.  We're good for up to 72" wide.
Peterson 10" WPF with 65' of track
Smith - Gallagher dedicated slabber
Tom's 3638D Baker band mill
and a mix of log handling heavy equipment.

Hi I know this post is old but I will be running a sawmill in Clinton MD.  On my property I have mostly white oak, sweet gum, mockernut hickory, American holly and beech.  My mill is portable so I do portable work up 36''

Milling it would be the easy part.  Sourcing the log.... now that's a different story! LOL

Have a look at this one. Dug up in Northland when they were preparing a site for a power station. It's probably 30-50,000 years old.

I would love to see some slabs off something like that, although I know it's not feasible.

Probably look a bit like this.

Its a section through a whole tree, but had to be cut in sections that the mill could handle.

Alternatively you could stand it upright and carve a spiral staircase inside the log.
