Title: chainsaw milling
Post by: WoodSmith on October 14, 2005, 11:19:09 PM
I'm going to be milling 24" doug fir with my Alaskan chainsaw mill. Whats your preference for motor CC's?
It sounds as though 67cc is probably minimum.
Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think most will agree, the most cc's you can afford.  When I han my Logosol, I ran a Stihl 066, and at times in larger cuts longed for an 088...

I used to run a pair of Husky 2101xp, I think they were about 96cc each, I still wanted more power. Eventually  gave  up on them and bought an old Woodmizer lt40. ;D ;D

I sawed my own lumber for 20 years with an Alaskan mill powered by a 70 cc saw. Mostly WRC, a lot of pine, a bit of birch and one D-Fir log. I hired a guy with a portable sawmill to cut the rest of the D-Fir  :(.

In other words, as JPH and Captain say, get the biggest engine you can afford. 70 cc just isn't enough.
