My buddy buying Satoh Tractor?
« on: July 04, 2008, 09:08:27 AM »
Anyone have experience w/ Satoh tractors? Parts availablility? IT is a 20-30 Hp gas tractor. Fairly simple, must be Chinese or something, fairly old. He doesn't have much cash and I am trying to help him out. It was at a local religious camp/ retreat and used w/ a flail to cut the grounds.

 Ironwood

Yes I have one , I have the Satoh Beaver , 2 cyl, deisel 4x4 with fel and back-hoe attachement . They are not Chinese , they are made in Japan .
One thing you might want to know about these is that the power take off does not turn like ours here . they turn the other way  >:( ... so anything you have that goes on a normal three point hitch and hooks to the power take off ... well you are sortof screwed there .  :-\
As for parts , they are available through Mitsubishi  as they are the fabricators .

 Would I get another .. I dont think so . ( no parts near me ... )

If I can be of any further help , alls ya got to do is hollar .  ;)

I've got a satoh 650g sitting in the junk yard on my property. Very hard to get many of the parts for the tractor and when you do your gonna pay a premium for them. Other than that the 650g I had was a strong tractor, 2 speed pto engages when you let the clutch out to move forward.

What went wrong on your Satoh 650g?  Just was wondering what put it in the junk pile.

Not sure. I suspect it jumped time. I don't know if this engine has a timing chain or timing gears.

You point out another plus for buying things that come with good repair manuals. Even if parts are hard to come by, a lot of repairs depend just on being able to understand the procedures for dis-assembly and putting the machine back together.

Right now, I have an industrial sewing machine apart...now have to find out how to time the bobbin with the needle. At least I finally found out what bound the thing up so it wouldn't even turn over. The manual has references to some other machine...so the hunt is on for some better understanding of how it works. Dear wife would like to get back to quilting..and a down machine isn't on her list of things to wait for.  ;D ;D

If it was my John Deere down (never seldom happens), I have good manuals for them.  :) :)
