6.0 gm motor ???

With better then average maintance, How many miles would you say it is good for?? Mine in my 04 has had a rough last 4-5 years and still runs great! 158,000 miles. I found a like new body wise truck with more miles then mine! Never seen winter! Same year and everything! Maintanance log shows all fluids change at or before they needed!

I've only had one GM with a 6.0L and was always told they are one of the toughest motors GM built.  As you are aware the maintenance of any motor is key to its longevity.  The 2011 I had was a pig on fuel though.

I think in the Northeast, and other road salt states, most all vehicles are rusted off the road before they mechanically wear out. It's too bad.

The one I found has 198,000 miles on it! You wouldn't think it looking at it! I was going to fix mine back up, either put a southern cab and body on it or do the body work at a cost of 3-5 grand either way! Eor 5 grand or so I can buy the running rust free 04! Run it and use mine for parts! The rust free one has original paint still on frame and under cab and fender wells!

I know the 5.3l's will last a long time.

Mine had 160,800 on it when I sold it.  Still ran great.

I bought a new 3/4ton Chevy in1988, with the 5.6liter, and drove it 286,000plus miles. Eleven years, and no wrenches on engine  at all. Bought new in 1999, with 6.0liter, 265,000plus. Same story. Bought the truck I have now, in 2007, 6.0liter an still no problems  at 145,000. So, I think you could get a good run from one with that few miles on it.    YMMV    8) 8) 8)  Amdy

What are you waiting for? Rust can not be fixed as far as I am concerned. Hidden yes, but it will be back. Buy that sucker!

If using the old truck for parts you might want some bluecreeper.Broken bolts and frozen parts ( from salt) is standard in new england. Good luck with the truck.

2004, chevy 2500hd 4x4crew cab pick up! Not a spec of rust on it! Very well maintained! Biggest thing I wanted this is I have one just like it for parts!!!  Mine runs and goes good, but needs lots of body work!

I just sold my 2006 with 235k. I am very familiar with these ls engine platforms. The 6.0 in mine lost oil pressure and hurt the main and rod bearings at 220k. My advice to you would be to replace the oil pump. This can be done from front  of engine without pulling the engine or even dropping the pan. There is a plunger inside pump that will seize up. We changed one out in about 4 hours. But I loved the truck and engine/s

Btw I am currently installing a 5.3 in a mustang,  with a large turbo. Should be fun.
