Very nice. That's nice lookin cedar I'm thinking. I cut western red cedar up here and it's nice but the wood in this video is something different. What's the proper name for it?? Looks very desirable.  Those guys work hard. 👍👍

Eastern red cedar. Very aromatic but I have found it frequently has heart rot as some of his does (see video at 2:00 min).

Thanks for posting. Very interesting to find operations like that still going in the USA today. I am surprised the various inspectors have not found and shut him down long ago for various safety regs.

I can't imagine this being a high profit margin operation. Looks like 5-6 men working at it and does not look like real high output. Of course they have cut out a lot of "unnecessary" expenses like glove, hearing protection, guards on equipment, etc.

I wish them well and hope they stay careful and not get hurt.

I'm sure he just saws for fun like a lot of people I'm sure , and here where us dumb hillbillies come from we don't use safety equipment, and the safety inspectors don't come this far back in the woods.

Nice video, thanks for posting.

Yes, Eastern Red.  I use it a lot, very light wood when it dries.  I made a chicken coop out of it, pantry shelving, closet shelves.  After a day of cutting and planing ERC i always have a headache from the smell but nice wood to work with.

Also rot resistent, used two logs for a pond pier years ago and so far so good.

I worked a mill very similar to that for many years.  We had a 3 man crew and did a trailerload of logs each day.  But, we didn't cut much cedar.

For some reason, sawing that close to a big open blade scares the heck out of me. One of my grandpaws was killed by a piece of blade that hit him in his head. :o Moma was 13 years old at the time. :(
