I don't know how the little guy survives myself. The folks next door have a green house and about 2 acres of gardens and just moved onto the farm 2 years ago. The most of the family has been away all winter. I ask no questions.

Diesel jumped to $4.23 here now... just in the past two weeks. Sure makes it harder to drive the 15mpg diesel Suburban... so yesterday I bought a '93 Subaru wagon for $100... that's less than it would cost to fill the tank in the Suburban. The Subaru is 4WD so that's nice, but... DanG I hate small cars!

Gas here in Georgia is 3:12 a gal. and Diesel is 3.85 a gal. The price has dropped on both about 10 cents per gallon the past two days. Hope it keeps it up!

Is that $2.31 per liter or per gallon?  At $2.31 per liter, that comes out to $8.44 per US gallon.  And we think we got it tough.

Truckers in my area are talking strike with diesel at $4.25/gal.  How do you folks move goods over there where it doesn't break the bank?

Pretty sure it's per litre. Fuel is twice as high in Western Europe compared to Canada.

I've searched and didn't find this question or answer, so excuse me if it's been asked.  I've always thought that it cost less to produce a gal. of Diesel than a gal. of Gas . If this is true, why isn't the Government calling these prices, ( gouging).

I've been told that the price is higher because there are more BTUs in a gallon of diesel fuel. There are probably other reasons.

I wish I could find what the ratio is regarding gasoline to diesel use per day, i.e., for each gallon of gasoline used there is 1.5 gallons of diesel used. Or maybe the other way around? So if you get 19.2 gallons of gasoline per barrel that means there is less diesel to be gotten. Thus it is in shorter supply.  Diesel, jet fuel, and heating oil are essentially the same aren't they?

Top of Utah (Flying J): Regular is $3.20, diesel is $3.94.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

Even stove oil is high and traditionally it has been cheaper than gas or diesel for trucks, even though it is burned in trucks to.

I think it's $1.25 a litre here for stove oil. My oil tank is 900 litres and in our winters a tank might do a month and a half, with the stove never shutting off to maintain 75 F. When, the fire is out it gets cold quick. With a wood fire it's warm for several hours after the fire goes out and takes less than a cord a month at $200/cord. Time taken to clean up the basement in spring of wood chips and bark and dirt is about an hour and time taken to stack the wood is about  2.5  8 hr days.  ;D

I found this information about what comes out of a barrel of crude:

Finished Motor Gasoline    51.4%
Distillate Fuel Oil    15.3%
Jet Fuel    12.3%
Still Gas    5.4%
Marketable Coke    5.0%
Residual Fuel Oil    3.3%
Liquefied Refinery Gas    2.8%
Asphalt and Road Oil    1.7%
Other Refined Products    1.5%
Lubricants    0.9%

Another site said that you get 7 gallons of diesel per barrel.

Diesel is always high during the winter months when its in competition with heating oil.

On my way to work this morning, I saw diesel for $4.25.  I repeat....$4.25.

Historically diesel was priced below gasoline as it is basically a by product with the focus one of producing gasoline.
I believe the reason diesel has been more expensive at the pump is that the oil companies understand that the price of diesel is somewhat meaningless to John Q. Public and so the masses don't get too excited about it.  The public fixates on gasoline.  So in a perverted way the oil compaines can improve their margin two fold by increasing the margin on diesel, jet and heating oil (yes. the consumers in the northeast react to heating oil but that is a small percentage of the market).
The other thing that would make this scheme work better than hiking gasoline prices is that the higher diesel price is basically a pass through for most users of diesel.  It is only now that John Q. is paying attention because the cost of commodities has risen to the point it is beginning to hurt.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it .......unless of course you all shoot it full of holes.  Ron?
