What are these Larva/Borer like things ??

My son found these eating maple leaves and we never saw them before. What are they ? We are in NE Vermont. Thanks

Do you have a better pic? I think it may be a sawfly larvae but could be way off (and also don't know which one)

Sorry it took me so long. I had given up on this ID request. That's the only picture I have. My son found them and snapped a photo. You might be right. Similar body to a saw fly larva ?? Thanks for the reply MudFarmer.
