Suddenly Lame

Got up to go to the bathroom last night, and out of nowhere, I couldn't put full weight on my left foot due to pretty fair amount of pain when I did. Had to use the walls and furniture to get around. Get off from it the pain eases out, but has a funny pressure feel to it. Only been on it when I have to. I have a puppy. :-\

This afternoon, it feels like there is something marblish shaped under each step just in front of my center heal. In my arch, tight to my heal.
  Hope to take it easy, but Tammy has to be gone most of the day tomorrow, so I hope I don't have to seek a doctor Monday morning.

What I told him to do got some brownie points.  :D
But he could not put much weight first thing in the morning. As the day went on, the pain got less. He dreaded putting his feet on the floor in the morning.

both are great diagnostic possibilities, and may be helped with a steroid injection or short course oral.  surgery can help bone spurs, and plantar fasciitis can respond to lots of PT like rolling it on a can.  can try cold and NSAIDS if you can take them.  maybe a sports med ortho or pain guy.

I got Cortisone shots in my feet for heel spurs once. Once! Never again! I showed up just to get x-rays so I could get the ok for the orthotics I needed, not planning on anything else. The Doc talked me into the injections, which I was very hesitant about. I said, "I drove myself over, and I have to go back to work. Won't that mess me up?" "Oh no, you'll be fine." Well ok. 

 My gosh, what a fiasco that turned into! I was picturing a shot, jab and done. Wrong. Jab, right into my heel bone and leave it there. Over and over, get a new syringe and pump that in. The room started spinning, I told him I was going to get sick so he gave me a bag and left. Finally the spinning stopped, me sitting there with a puke bag and covered in cold sweat wondering where the day went wrong🤦‍♂️

 He came back and finished, it took a while as I learned the initial doses were just numbing agent. He got done and shoved me out the door, I couldn't feel my legs. I was not very happy. My feet ached so bad from the shots, the cure was worse than the disease.

 All of that said, this was at the Cass Lake Indian Hospital, where the care can be top notch, or not so much. I don't know if what happened to me was normal or if I got someone who had no idea what they were doing, what I do know is that I would have to be in very dire straits before I'd be subjected to that again😬

I had stitches in the bottom of my foot, and it is a very tender spot.  but the folks that do it a lot, know how to get it done so it is not so bad, and not a long process.  As well, you have to get to the right spot or it does not help.

I almost think this was this guy's first opportunity to try this that he came across. He was really pushy getting me to agree to it, told me how much it would help. BS. At the Indian Hospital, you get a lot of young Drs. that do their residency there, and get part of their schooling paid for iirc. The best thing to get there (IMO) is a referral to somewhere else, which was basically all I was there for. That was close to 25 years ago and I don't think I've been back since!😂

That, is a perfect description of plantar fasciitis.

My doctor sent me to a fancy foot specialist and I think you are underestimating the sadism that compels these guys. 
As anyone that's had a heel spur knows, part of the pain is caused by a tendon in your heel that runs up to your second and middle toes. This is especially excruciating when your foot and toes are flexed upward. So what did this idiot do but take hold of my foot with both his hands and after looking into my eyes so he could fully watch the agony that was to follow and jerk and hold my foot for far longer than needed. I almost cried but I refused to give him the satisfaction.  
The moment he let my foot go I started to put my shoes on to leave and then he was hopping around saying that the appointment wasn't finished and I said yeah it's finished. 
I got the flare up under control with two Aleve in the morning. I haven't had a problem since.

When those foot guys run out of potential victims in an area they go into nerve conduction studies which involves both electric shock and hollow needles being stuck into you dozens of times.  I eventually walked out of that snake oil salesmans office early too.

Sorry to derail things a bit, Jeff. 

 For as painful as the heel spurs can be, they never hurt me as badly as what you are describing. They just make the soles of my feet really sore, like after being on your feet all day. They often feel the worst when I first get up. 

 I don't remember where on the Forum, the thread may have been called Plantar Fasciitis, but a member suggested some orthotic insoles. I used to wear some but I misplaced them. In fact, getting those was the cause of the miserable experience I had at the Indian Hospital. Anyways, instead of repeating that experience, I ordered a pair of the OTC ones the member suggested, they were around $30. They have definitely helped. I've noticed too, that it is better if I wear shoes in the house (hard surface floors) with the orthotics, or my feet begin to get sore quickly.

need an x-ray out r/o stress fracture.  Not sure where you all Doctor, but the few non-qualified "think they can fix anything" folks I have dealt with are usually well known to the mainstay docs in the area.  the chronic inflammatory stuff is usually not out of the blue, and goes a long time before folks have the severity of symptoms you are talking about.  i assume no specific injury.

I had to give up going without shoes in the house quite some time ago. Foot pain subsided right away. 

But never had such pain as Jeff describes.

I have a bone spur under my right big toe.  It flares up sometimes and causes lots of pain.  I rarely am caught without shoes on.  I wear my crocs around the house all the time and then it won't hurt.  Went to an orthopedist and he xrayed to confirm the spur.  He said he could do surgery, but I declined that for now since it only flares up sometimes and I can manage it with not being barefoot.

A broad recommendation:  Always use an orthopedist rather than a podiatrist.  My wife and I speak from experience.

3rd hour waiting in urgent care. Doctor was out today, and this is the only way to get an xray before he gets back.  At least I have an amish guy here to talk to that has a cabinet shop and used to work in the woods, and goes to the u.p. fishing.

So, went to the dr, im now in the hospital getting an ekg because my blood pressure is 30pts different from one arm to the other.  The foot still hurts, probably planta whatever you call it.  Had to have blood work and apparently got a newbie flobotonnist.

 Just curious, when they did the BP test on both arms was it a nurse or a Doc that did it? Di they confirm it a little while later? For that variation I would think they should.

I went for the ekg. They replicated the difference there, but they said that the ekg, preliminarily, looked fine. I've always been that way. I told em that.

I've been having lots of joint pain. Hips, knees shoulders, elbows, aggravating enough to start taking joint supplements, but not enough to break my current 2yr streak of staying away from people that say there is something wrong with you.

While listening to my heart, he noticed the patch of currently flared up eczema on my wrist.  I'm now being tested to rule out Psoriatic Arthritis.

My take on the foot is, I had been sick with a head and chest cold since I got the pup. Ive spent the last month mostly stocking foot on a hardwood floor, so the doc innitially agrees with the consensus here, but wants me to have it looked at further.

Its a bit better today, but I've made a point to keep some sort of footware on while walking beyond socks. My hips cant stand me sitting down and my foot cant stand me standing up.

Yep and if it is plantar fasciitis it is commonly caused by wearing boots or shoes with a poor footbed and heel and ankle support or even walking around at home in bare or stocking feet (ie: little if any heel support arch support).
Very painful immediately with the first steps (or attempts thereof) in the AM - but pain resumes later if one is one their feet for long periods of time especially with a lack of mentioned - lack of good foot support.
Any good ortho place can set you up up with getting molded footbed inserts that, while initially painful and uncomfortable to wear, will within a couple of weeks or can bring good results.
The trick is to get a pair or single ones that can be transferred into whatever you normally wear so the support they offer to ease the pain will be continual whenever you are wearing something like work boots or shoes.
It won't be a quick fix - but I'm here to tell you that inserts do work well!

The only shoes that I can wear are Reebok DMX MAX that has an air bladder in both the front sole and heel with a connecting tube.  You are literally walking on air as the air squished back and forth between the two bladders as you walk.  I wear them 7 days a week.  

This is why I recently had so much trouble finding replacement work boots.  They are Reebok boots but without the DMX.  I installed two insoles and they are working, not perfect but working.

PatD takes Glucosamine Chondroitin twice daily which eliminated her lifelong knee/leg pain.  It was recommended to her by @loggah when we visited him in 2017.

When I was working as a consulting forester and walking long distances daily marking timber and carrying the weight of extra cans of marking paint on my work belt, I developed sever pain in the heels of my feet. So severe that I couldn't walk.

I went to the VA doctor, and he had x-rays taken of my feet. He then sent me to a foot specialist who had custom mold insert made for my feet. I started wearing the inserts regularly in my shoes and boots and the heel pain went away and I've had no problems since. It was plantar fasciitis.

Just wondering if your problems started after the second covid vaccine like mine did. I have  the same joint pain, muscle loss, fatigue,  and brain fog that began right after  my second shot. All my doc has found  so far after dozens of blood tests is I developed an autoimmune problem that I did not have before it. I keep hearing it's long covid but suspect vaccine side effects.

I absolutely believe that. Same as my cognitive issues. I am not the same, no way, not near, as before the 2nd injection.  It killed Tammy's mom and Tammy is now deaf on one ear, and lost hearing in the other.

That shot effects younger people also. A friend of mine that got talked into getting a shot that works at muscle supplement place started to have weird stuff going on with his heart and chest they can't figure out. Started after the shot. He's about 225 lbs. and has deadlifted 810 lbs.

Foot is feeling much better . As long as I keep some sort of shoes on. Walk with them off and it starts coming back, but its pretty good last few hours. Dull ache but very tolerable. Im taking it pretty easy for a bit. I hope to put a mustang back together Sunday.

Sure sounds like some sort of acute injury, if it's getting better this quickly.  Whether that occurred because you're getting older is anyone's guess.  But the fact that you Don't know exactly when this injury happened makes me think it's just one of those things.  Get used to this stuff.  You've still got some living to do.

I'm  leaning towards steping on one of the dogs chew toys while still asleep trying to get the puppy out, and only waking to the pain. Who knows. It still hurts today, but not near as bad. 

The hip but and knee and leg pain, who knows. Leaning towards some sort of sciatica issue. That is purely my diagnosis, because none of it make sense.

I wasn't going to say anything because I'm not a doctor but will interject a thought on this  Georgia early on and myself  on the Covid 19 thing had about a one week situation where nearly every joint in our bodies hurt .Before we had the injections for same .Her Doc said it might have been the Covid .
Afterwards in spite of having all 4 injections I tested positive which was just like a bad cold .Weather that adresses the problem Jeff is having is only a thought on my part .I'm not going to argue about it .

The other issues sounds like sciatica to me. I've had it before and it lasted 5 weeks the last time. Nothing can be done about it much. I do know that foam chairs and foam on top of mattresses is not a solution.  My go to chair is a nice wooden rocker with very thin cushions. Or my wing back with horse hair and cotton stuffing. Those and daily walks. I have a firm top mattress, not something than sinks. But a good walk several days a week does a world of good. Winter makes it difficult to get out, especially with ice everywhere.

Virtually no pain now in my foot, a little if I walk with out shoes, not really pain, but a slight reminder not to do that. Ill probably cancle the podiatrist tomorrow if I'm still good. Ive been playing and kicking the ball with the pup a little e few times a day and so far so good. My hip and knee and leg pain feels so muscular, so I still say its nerve pain and passed that on to the nurse today who said she would talk with him. I'm finally over the creeping crud, but Ill take it easier a few more days

I've been using Tart Montmorency cherry juice concentrate when I get a recurrence of big toe joint pain.
It took time to occur and it takes a while to go away.  I keep a 46 fluid ounce jug in the fridge just in case.

Put up with gout for about 20 years, and some serious bouts. Drank a lot of different juices, and think it was the cause of a knee op. About that time I was being checked out by a different doctor, and he asked me if I was on Allopurinol for meds. Said "no" and he said "well you should be". That was just 22 years ago next month. Have not had any trouble with gout since that time. 
Was on Indomethacin for several years and my pharmacist was worried about how long and often I was taking it. More severe times I took Colchicine. 
Neither of those meds since the Allopurinol. Apparently some people cannot take this.

I have been diagnosed with gout within the last year.  Used colchicine for the acute attacks.  Altered diet significantly and drank cherry juice, but did not prevent further attacks.  Started on Allopurinol last month.  Doing well now.  Need a bit of further monitoring to optimize the dose of Allopurinol.

It is not a contest but there might be a lesson for someone younger or someone who is beginning to splatter their feet in there. This was the first post I read coming in from walking the swingblade for the past couple days, guard down and limp up . That list is really rooted in item 1, flat feet. That is a little bit of the progression, if you have them take care of em.

nerve and muscle is better seen with MRI.  but they are a big expense.  come to Kansas and we can get you to some great docs, that will hopefully know what they are looking for and order tests only that are needed.  some things are tough to diagnose.  sorry.

I'll have to do physical therapy before my insurance will allow further testing. I think, with the right therapist, that might be all I need.

Would consider an EMG/NCS. Electromyogram Nerve Conduction Study. If this persists.  Used to determine and quantify the irritability and dysfunction of nerves.
