This was posted this morning on the JD dozer site, 'Such a shame that PHOTO BUCKET stopped sharing; so many wonderfully useful posts with pictures lost.'
Yea, I knew about this.in fact I've seen it. Many many forums have been decimated. Not us! :)
Such a shame , as it left an extremely giant hole in some very usefull content.
There are reasons that the Forestry Forum is the best and it's not by accident. Yes, I/we see folks complain about picture posting and say "well it's not like on other forums". Well thankfully they are correct. It's not like "other forums".
Thank You Jeff for keeping the Forestry Forum from being like the "others". smiley_thumbsup
I considered this "what if" many years ago, actually from the beginning. I'd seen the early web builder sites of the late 1990's go away leaving people without the website and images they had created and posted as well as some other content hosting sites. I myself lost some content to services called free yellow and members.tripod.
I've believed all along that the free photo hosting sites business model was flawed, that advertising within a photo warehouse was not going to be sustainable and eventually they would have to turn to the people using the "free" service to pay the bills, who would then refuse.
Here is an example of what has happened. Post after post, topic after topic, forum after forum.
OKLAHOMA 20X30 SINGLE STORY (https://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=8931.0)
It has left a huge hole in much content on the net, and yes Jeff warned of exactly that when he set up hosted photos on the forum early on, they were small but are still there. For myself I had more trouble using p-bucket than the utility here.
I no nothing about "Picture Pail" but it looks like pictures are gone that can never be found.
I lost photos years back when Photo Point went under.
Jeff,I only went and read the first page,no need to read all 27 to see how with no pictures alot is hard to understand.
No complaints about the picture posting from me. I've been to other sites and see the red "X" .
At work we do things a certain way. Some of the new people come in and want to change the way we do things. They don't last long.
Some new members should realize the way you do it works and will work for years.
Vbulletin has built in hosting, and despite being the next best software after SMF, it's a distant second. PHOTO BUCKET was a pain anyway.
Photo bucket in the news....

Thank you Jeff for the protection that you have provided. Without it this forum would be devistated. The information conveyed in the photos here is truly priceless .
I frequent a couple of sites that have to do with old iron.
What is sad, folks that are no longer with us took the time to document working with and repairing some of this old iron. And now it is lost. :(
So It is now "Photo Kicked the Bucket"?
The p-bucket thing has made a mess over at owwm, they never had direct upload until recently.
Members have been updating old threads, with direct uploads.
Others have been trying to repair deceased members threads.....
