My front end on my Ford is squeaking, local guy said it's the ball joints and around a $900 job maybe a little cheaper. Does this sound right? Also how dangerous it to drive, its been doing this for several months now?
That sounds way high.I had 4 ball joints,a sway bar and an alignment done for a little less than that.
1996 Ford F150 4x4.
Can't give you an opinion on driving it with loose ball joints.
Ford dealer quoted me $1100 to do joints on my 2007 Ranger, included wheel alignment. Thought it was high so second quote from small shop was $900 without alignment. Did it myself with loaner tools from Advance Auto for half.
Wow... All 4 ball joints is $31.00 off E-bay. I think I would shop around.
just jack it up and see if there is play in them if one is bad like the top one do them both its the same amount of work the first time i had all 4 done in my 96f250 and was only 730$ but no alignment not sure about the f150 but the 250 they make a heavy duty ball joint is it 2x4 or 4x4 if 2x4 it should be a lot cheaper than 4x4
It's a 4x4
As coxy suggested, jack it up, put one hand on the top of the tire the other hand on the bottom and try moving it by rocking it back and forth, if it moves or makes any sounds it's probably bad. Check both sides. Roger
