Title: Old Alpina chainsaw help needed
Post by: Fulcrum156 on May 01, 2018, 10:40:50 AM
Hi,

I have this 1980s alpina chainsaw. After unscrewing and later bolting it back in one piece, I found a problem:
There are two controls for throttle. The upper one .. does not control the actual throttle body. It's there just for safety. When pressed, it moves a mechanism that allows you to press the throttle. When released, the bottom throttlle control doesn't 'work', it is sent to 'idle'.
The bottom one is the real throttle control. You press it, it opens the opening on the carburettor. It opens the opening as much as you press it.
I suspect that the upper one should have a spring to return it to default position.

*ignore the message about where those two parts belong. I found out they re just used for bolting the upper cover up.

Help appreciated.

Hi! Try to assemble throttle as shown on the picture
Guess You havent installed spring , position 42
Those two parts are cover supports (positions 28 & 29)
Also attached pdf, Alpina 45 is on the last page. (https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/49799/45.jpg?easyrotate_cache=1525375139)

I see, spring missing, maybe it blew away when I disassembled it. Thank you very much for your post, very helpful.

update

I got a question; say that someone needs a replacement ignition coil for this chainsaw. Is it possible to find one at a reasonable price?
I found eg. this ad,   EUR 70: BOBINA ACCENSIONE ELETRONICA MOTOSEGA ALPINA-CASTOR CASTELGARDEN 40-41-45 BM5756 | eBay (https://www.ebay.it/itm/BOBINA-ACCENSIONE-ELETRONICA-MOTOSEGA-ALPINA-CASTOR-CASTELGARDEN-40-41-45-BM5756/272274166014?hash=item3f64ce10fe:g:fn8AAOSwFb5aMqPL)
which is just not worth buying. I see it should be compatible with ALPINA-CASTOR CASTELGARDEN 40-41-45, but, nevertheless it's expensive and difficult to find.
* I just bought a Husqvarna 120 mark II for EUR 160, I wouldn't throw 100++ EUR for fixing this saw ..
