My friend who does tree work and logs
Just had his new on road trailer delivers to my mill yard tonight.

He had it custom built to his specs

I noticed the big space between axles.
Most are built like the log carrier in the background in the first picture.
Less hitch weight that way?
Best part was having it delivered to your yard!! Sort of a Christmas tease!

A little axle spread allows for a thinner main frame, and thus more payload.
imagine putting a 2x4 over a pair of sawhorses and putting the same load on each end. The further you spread the sawhorses, the less the lumber will bow. You move the front axle up a bit to carry some of the log loader off the hitch and the rear axle back to help carry some more of the timber load. Tails hang up on the ground a lot less with a setback rear axle too. Doesnt matter much on a flatbed, but with beaver tail trailers and lots of span from the bumper to the axle, they hang up alot. Move the axle toward the bumper and its cured.
The company normally puts 3 axles on this model with single wheels.
He wanted 2 axles with dual wheels.
3 axle singles skid the tires a lot
