Newbie here. Anyone milling water oak? Useful for anything? We have an abundance of it on our 30 acres.
Where is this water oak?
Member @fishfighter (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=28788) has sawn and used much Water Oak on this build. Started the build. in Timber Framing/Log construction (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?topic=82663.msg1261033#msg1261033)
Yes, I lots of it on my place too! So, why not used it?

It is somewhat stable when you flat saw. Weight is your friend when drying it.it. I used it from framing to finishing product.
Water Oak is part of the "Red Oak" family, and gets bundled in and sold commercially as such. It's a good hardwood for flooring, furniture, cabinets etc as fishfighter's pictures indicate.
Tends to have bacterial stain which creates some interesting colors.

Yes, it does and some stink when sawing. Fresh fell trees in the winter is best not to get any stain in the wood.
