Title: Corley 60-NS-009 edger
Post by: ArkansasRick on September 18, 2018, 10:50:47 AM
Picked up a Corley Edger last night. Anyone know anything about a Corley Edger with a tag 60-NS-009.  The feed rollers look good with little wear.
I read in another post 10hp (electric motor 3 phase) per inch of lumber you are edging? Also read for 14" blades about 2200 to 2400 RPM for hardwood. It does have pillow block bearings and inserted teeth 14" blades. It looks ready to run, newer belt and a box of new teeth with it. Got it for $200 so can put some $ into it if I have to. Overall length is 16'. Thanks for any information.

My Frick wants 1700 or 1800rpm on the mandrel with 14in saws and gives a feed rate of 100fpm. At that feed speed I would want 50 liquid fuel hp or 30 electric ponies.

Rule of thumb is 3-5 hp per inch of wood per saw.

these old edgers were made to be flat belt driven off the same engine that ran the headsaw, so there was no lack of power.

At 100fpm it would take just 4.81 seconds to go through a 8ft even board. Most if not all "bandmill" edgers will not run over 80fpm wide open.
