Title: Weekend sawing with a swinger
Post by: NZJake on February 05, 2005, 04:32:52 AM
Well heres some pics of what I've been up to the last two weekends, cut up a big old gum into garden sleepers for a chap. We were able to get 5300BF out of the thing.

The first weeken Rex and I used my ATS "Jake's version manual mill" we cut 2400BF in 4 hours that day.

The next weekend I thought we might do something different... I left Rex and a helper to cut two logs up with my mill while I milled up the other two on my own with the ASM. Turns out I finished a whole half a log before the other guys, I even got to get my hands back onto my mill to finish their last log up.

Just shows how automation can really speed up the the day. 1200BF later I was still full of energy when I got back onto my mill. Anyway heres the pics...

Holy smokes, Jake.  A lot of us can not relate to logs that sizr, that gum was a monster.

Looks as if you've been busy, I see some improvements on the ASM.

Hi Jake,

I bet Rex was having a good time swinging the blade over!

I see the dihatsu motor is still her, is she still going strong?

I like the red motors on the ASM!

Si, I don't think it was the swingin, more to do with jumpin up and down on that log probably (anyhow my mills got a switch for swingin the blade), I know there was probably no need for it but why not? The daihatsu is still powering through.

Anyway hows everything happening in Aus? Done any big jobs lately with the ASM?

Just got back from Angola in Africa.

They are cutting logs from 1m to 1.8m diameter and as long as the tracks will handle.

I'll be heading back soon for some more work.

They are using a Peterson 8" WPF with 2 sets of tracks amd are looking to buy 3 or 4 more of the same.

Most of the cutting is 16" wide by 1", 1½" and 2" thick.

I'll post some pics later.

Sawmillsi,

I went to Angola a few years back, watch out for the Rebels, when I was there they were taking pot shots at commercial air traffic with sholder fired missles.

When I left, the flight took off and headed stright out over the Atlantic for about 30 minutes, then hooked a right and headed up to Brussles.

This was direct flight from Angola to Brussles; but that did not stop Sebena from loosing my luggage. >:( >:(

I still have not figured out how they lost my bags on a direct flight; but they did.

Reminds me of a joke...

A man carrying two bags walks up to the check in at the airport.
He presented his ticket to Chicago and they began checking his luggage.

The man said " Now I want this bag sent to Las Vegas and this other bag sent to Boise."  The teller looked puzzled as she said "Sir, we can't send your bags to another place other than where your traveling."  He replied "Why not?  You did it last week!"

Hi mark

no rebels left since the end of the war in 2000, but when u fly internally within Angola, they don't care about if you have wepons with you.

In fact you could take one of those sholder launched missiles on board and as long as you either put it in the overhead lockers or beneith the seat in front of you, no one would care.

thats kind of like flying on the coast of BC here where I live. Lots of Foresters carry a .45 or a shotgun for bear protection. No problem getting on the plane - I've heard of guns sitting on the check in counter at the airport while someone rumages for a ticket.

Try getting on with mace tho' and you might get lynched!! :D :D :D

That's no joke mind you, mace can be a major disaster in a helicopter... There has been a few close calls with cans going off. Hard to land when you can't see. ::)
