I am a newbie Logosol m8 owner and have been cutting some aspen and poplar (true poplar, not tulip poplar) mostly for practice. However, Thursday I cut my first high quality log. It was the trunk of a honeysuckle tree that was growing in our back yard and was cut down a couple of years ago. So far I have just made one cut, down the pith line. I will finish cutting into boards this week. Attached are a couple of pictures of the cut. I put some water on the wood to give an idea what it might look when finish is applied to it.
Correction. I should have written "honey locust", not "honey suckle". Thanks to the other posters for catching that. I don't know how I could have made that mistake, but honestly, I have made worse mistakes in my life.
Also, clarification, When I said "poplar" I mean members of the genus Populus, like quaking aspen, cottonwood, or white poplar, not the "poplar" you might find at the big box stores (tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)). The poplar I have been cutting included some white poplar and a little bit of quaking aspen. These were yard trees from the neighborhood that were cut down.

Maybe you could further explain the "Poplar" statement? smiley_headscratch
What is a Honeysuckle tree?
Maybe it would help if you would finish filling out your profile and add your location. ;)
Magicman, I'm thinking he's differentiating based on scientific classification rather than common name. If my memory serves me correctly, tulip or yellow poplar is a common name. The genus Populus includes aspens and cottonwoods but doesn't include tulip poplar. Tulip or yellow poplar is a species in a different genus from the aspens and cottonwoods.
Welcome to the Forum!
Pretty grain color.
You are exactly right Ted, thank you. (I learned something from the FF today.)
Now what is a Honeysuckle tree?
Oops. I don't know why I wrote "honeysuckle". It is honey locust. I will correct the original post.
Absolutely:
