Could a fella who's new to repairing saws get some help on where to buy, what to replace and how to do a rebuild? I read a couple parts sources online, they all go by year. Does it say somewhere on the saw what year it was made?

Whew, that's ugly. Was it on the bottom of a lake? You've got to disassemble and examine - remove jug first. Depends on what the inside of crankcase looks like but I wouldn't trust big rod bearing or crankcase bearings/seals. So, splitting case = big job.
ID sticker normally has year - top cover.
No lake. My father-in-law (may he RIP) had it for several years. I've used it for 3-4 since his passing. It was my go-to saw. It chug and stopped. This is the result. Gas/oil mix was good. Just had its time maybe, I dunno. This is the top cover.

Maybe you got some heavily water laden fuel. Pull the jug and look in the crankcase. A sticker should show serial # and year, if it hasn't come off. Although year shouldn't be too important for parts. Don't think they changed much from 2002-2011.
