Nice work
It would be nice if there is room between the mill and the poles to be able to use a tractor to scrape away the sawdust.
You keep building stuff, your gonna run out of space on you signature line 😉
Chhance of rain overnight and tommorow. Hope it doesnt do much so i can get some boards up tommorow. i dont have all the lumber milled to finish it up. Just glad to get the poles in before it rains again.
What kind of poles? Are they cedar? Good start.
Yep cedar
Are you going to be working in there or just storing the mill in there?
If your gonna be working you should plan a steel beam and trolley system for moving logs and lumber around. If done right you will be able to load from the end of the building and use the chainfall to roll logs.
You could have some fun and move the mill tight to the sawdust side. Then make a door the full length of the mill that opens in and creates a sawdust ramp. Open when milling close all other times. then all your sawdust will be outside where you can get to it with the tractor.
looking good smiley_thumbsup

Thats where i will be milling. Dont need a trolley system with the grapple on my 8n. I dont mill big stuff
May not need it but it sure is nice to have. especially for rolling logs. I do not see anything to roll them on your mill.
Would be pretty sweet to just stage a pile of logs at the end of the building then pick them up and pull them in without having to start and use the tractor. also be quite a bit more controlled and less abuse to the mill.
Your gonna love that! Just put mine under a roof after 15 yrs. Had been using those portable canvas shelters before, big improvement! Enjoy
The grapple sets them on the mill without any abuse. I may eventually build a log deck in the door way to stage logs. Keep in mind this is a low budget build and im using what i have on hand and lumber i mill off my land to build. The main objective is to keep the mill out of the weather. Im tired of having to lift the head off everytime i use it and put in the shop.
Reminds me when I built my boat house and I had 4X6 poles with a couple pieces of framing attached standing in the air for 6 months while I was working overseas. Finally got home, ordered the rafters to arrive just before I got home and threw the rafters on and sheeted and roofed it.
Are you planning on a concrete pad? The 2X6's that low to the ground makes me wonder if they are formwork. If not I'd raise them 6" or more and lift the sides a few inches off the ground but that is just me.
I enjoy watching a shed go up from the ground like that. Thanks for sharing. I am sure you will get many years enjoyment from it. No matter what size it is, it is never big enough. Once you get the rest of the framing and sides and such up start planning where to put shelves and pegs and such to store your tools and such where it will be handy to your work process.

Well the help finally showed up. Time to get to work. 8)
No concrete now anyway. Eventually hopefully. When I upgrade mills for sure.
Looks like a supervisor to me. Is that really help? :)

Barking out orders all day
That is the best kind of Boss.
How tall is your building? I'm constructing the same thing this year, but recently increased my width to 16 feet. I am hoping that 12 feet tall is enough.
Mines just 8 ft
kwill, at least he chews his own tail, not yours!! ;D
Kwill,
I went back through your posts thinking I missed something along the way. But I didn't find it. It looks like your sawmill bed has two axles under it. When did you do that, and why?

Its 2 boat trailers back to back. I needed a longer sawmill rail as i could only cut 10ft

And last time I saw a picture of the mill it also had one more saw head than what is pictured here. That shed is looks to be getting off to a mighty fine start.
Sawhead stays in the shop till the shed is done.i dont like things out in the rain.
This might be a stupid idea but what if you poured two concrete footers twice the length of your building ( making sure you use rebar and finish the concrete out smooth) and about a foot or so wide and deep. Install a anchor point in each corner and maybe on in the middle. Then mount some heavy duty casters on the bottom of your building. When you want to use your mill roll the build down the footer out of the way, when your done roll it back and anchor it down using a chain boomer etc......
Got my header beam milled and set in place today.
