Along about 8:30 or so, I got a knock on the door and went to check it out!
It was one of my Amish neighbor-ladies who quickly told me that they had a problem, and the problem was that the husband went off to work (odd jobs) and forgot to harness the buggy horse for the kids buggy (school bus)!
I told her that I would be right up, but it's been over 55 years since I have harnessed a horse but I could probably get it done with a little help from a couple of the older kids!
I got my boots on and went to the barn and located the harness, then the horse and started the task, after about 20 minutes we were leading the horse out to the buggy (school bus), got him hooked up and away they went, off to school!
It kinda reminded me of myself doing the pretrip on my school bus a few years ago, they were only 45 minutes late taking off!
The lady was at the buggy before they took off and said "I suppose you'll get a loaf of fresh bread delivered tomorrow", I looked at her and smiled and said thanks! She does make good bread!
She said thanks for helping, and I said that's what neighbors are for!
I felt good about it all day! 8)
Chuck,Good on you.Any bread left?
Did my heart good to read a good story like that. Good post.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful story Chuck. 8)
Good on ya! Just glad it was you and not me. I might have had the rig on backwards.
It will be a cold day when I can't stop and help a neighbor that needs it. Glad you were there.
Nice! I'm a little surprised the woman and older kids couldn't do it though. Is it really that hard? Honest question. I don't know a thing about horses.
You are a good man, Chuck White.
the Amish are quite self-sufficient. quite a compliment that she would even ask you.
It may have been considered "mans" work and it was culturally against what she beleived, no matter, way to be a stand up guy. I bet the bread is awesome.
Nice work. It's good when you get to help someone out.

Horse buggy harnesses are not very intuitive...

Good for you Chuck! Enjoy your payment!!!
Those horses have height and no matter how talented she might be in knowing how, she would still need to be tall enough to lift, position, and adjust the top rein.
There is such contentment in being able to help a neighbor of any faith.
This harness was different than the one pictured, for this one had a collar and the haines that were attached to the collar via adjustable straps, top and bottom!
But, they were basically the same!
They have two different sizes of horses, the "buggy (road horses)" are crossed with Morgan, and the "draft horses" are crossed with Percheron!
Thanks for all the favorable comments!
The bread is delicious and it makes the very best Toast and also great French Toast!
too bad you do not have some of the @thecfarm (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=436) s jelly!!! maybe this Christmas. i won it last year in the Christmas contest. Thanks again Ray!

I know that the Amish have their own way of life and doing things, but I'd venture a guess that the words that wife had for her husband when he got home are ones that all of us husbands are familiar with😁 Good on you, Chuck, for breaking out the old harness skills👍
It makes a persons day to help someone that truly appreciates it, good job !!!!
There will be no age limit with this shine.
Good job Chuck. It does feel good to help a neighbor in need. I know I have asked my neighbors many times.
