Am I correct is guessing this is a hickory? I'm pretty good at identifying by leaves, but not so much by bark and buds. Thanks!

Hickory
I'd guess it's mockernut hickory, looks like thick twigs and hairy buds.
Yes, hickory. One thing to remember is that hickory bark is very hard.
I am with the Dog. It is mockernut hickory.

Twigs are way more accurate than bark pics and such for i.d. purposes.
