I got an app on my smartphone called PictureThis. It is real good at identifying from a leaf or flower
most trees, shrubs,vines, mosses, forbs and flowers. I never used it on end grain. It's not great doing bark and doesn't do fungi.But I love it.P.S. I don't work for the app maker, I'm just saying that I can ID much better with this than with my field guides.
