Title: Ironwood log.
Post by: welderskelter on August 30, 2020, 07:43:05 PM
Anybody ever sawed an ironwood log? My neighbor brought me a chunk about 8 in. in diameter. Sawed it up and poured some water on it and boy that was pretty. I will be on the lookout for all I can find now. Up here they dont get very big and then they fall over. The forest floor is covered with them. An 8in. log would be a big one. They are always split and twisted.

I cut one that had a cbh of 51".
It was hollower than a $3.00 dollar bill.
What a let down.
I did salvage a short 8' piece in the top.
I found it sawed great w/4* blades, just had to slow down a bit.
Sold some to a fellow for making a block plane.
