I purchased a 460 rancher last may.
First problem it came with that anti kickback chain which sucks so I bought 2 Oregon 72s
Keeps throwing the chain and bent one tooth on the sprocket nose also burred the bottom of the drive links and bent one other link.
This has been a recurring problem.
Any input is appreciated.
Floating rim sprocket or spur drive?
Kevin
What guage is the bar? Here the saw is sold with .058
Kevin, spur sprocket
Sawguy .50
My son has the same saw with 24" bar and his has come off once.
Mine has ruined portions of 4 chains so far.
I believe it was sold with 73 chain and bar where I live. Check the bar again.
I have a 460 out in the shed, so I just went and checked what mine has on it. It's a 20" bar , 72 dl .58.
The bar that came with it is a 24", 50 gauge
Im going to call Husky customer support Monday
Manual that came with is specifies 72 link .050 chain
What are you cutting with it? I've had issues cutting brush with the small nose consumer bars. Stuff will catch the chain, and pull it off the bar. I have less of an issue with broader nosed bars. By default, I replace the bar on my small saws with a WoodlandPro bar. They work better for my purposes.

24" bar should be 84 links.
3/8 x 72 drivers shouuld fit a 20" bar. That chain on a 24" is way too much for a 460.
LXS Should have been clearer, I am using the 20" bar and chain, cutting some 16 to 24" cherry for firewood
These were left over as cut offs from a sale of timber.
Another problem is when buried in the log the bar fills with sawdust causing the chain to bind up.
IMO it was a mistake buying this saw.
At my age I figured a homeowner saw would be sufficient for my needs, but not so.
Should have gone for the 562xp or even the 572xp.
Sawguy, I agree on your assessment of the 24" bar which is why I bought the 20"
I wouldn't give up on it yet. I think the 460's a pretty well regarded saw in its class. It certainly isn't supposed to throw chains. I can't say what the issue is, but it doesn't sound fatal to me. Just a matter of getting it figured out.
