This morning before we left for vacation I decided to cut my first log on my new mill. So I picked out a small, crooked, ugly little poplar log from the stack. I was kinda surprised by what I found inside.

I've got 3 more logs from this tree. I can't wait to open them up!
That's pretty cool. Makes the first log even more exciting.
WOW!!! What kind of poplar is that? BLUE??! That is really nice. Great log for your first log.
You sawed your first log on the day you left for vacation? :D :D Your wife must think you're crazy. Don't worry Patrick, mine does too. :D
Keep sending us pictures when you get back. Have fun.
Better than christening her with a champagne bottle!!
Congrats on getting the mill up and running. That blue poplar is not uncommon but always nice to find. I think it is some kind of mineralization. I hope you find a happy home with an appropriate to use.
Pretty sweet for your first log. 8)
Congrats on getting the new mill up and running.
Now go enjoy your vacation. You earned it. smiley_thumbsup

yellow poplar sometimes has rainbow colors, and is actually called Rainbow Poplar, fades over time. You might get lucky and get orange and pink and blue all in one log.
Have fun! Looks great.

Or a nail!
That will help you have a better mind set to start vacation!
Hold on honey I'll be right there. I only have 3 more logs to go 😋
I was at Yellowhammer's place today and saw some whopping big rainbow poplar logs.
Did you follow and observe all the guidelines he has in place for the (Corona Virus). And by the way did you have a appointment 😂😂
This was the first time I had seen rainbow poplar in person. I had seen some pictures of some big slabs with it, but had never seen it myself.
I got back from my vacation Saturday night and yesterday sawed a small load (500 feet) of cedar for one of my customers. The new mill cut very straight and true. Now I know why everyone says more horsepower is better. My old mill was 14 hp and this one is 23. Huge difference! Electric start and power feed makes things nice too.

Not only did he have an appointment, he drove all the way from Georgia to Alabama.
Rainbow poplar is some of the most beautiful and striking wood and one of our best sellers.
632 miles round trip just to look at some rainbow poplar logs ;D.
In addition, WDH picked up a load of the truly ugliest persimmon I have ever made, so ugly I wouldn't even take a picture of it so it never happened. :D :D However, Danny will use his magic to turn it into something nice.
I will tell you this, you can enter persimmon in the "Pith Cracking Olympics" and you very well might just win a gold medal :D.
