Title: LiL Honey house
Post by: A-z farmer on November 10, 2020, 07:43:37 PM
When I joined this forum 2 years ago I saw a lot of members cutting and using poplar wood for projects .So I milled up about 3000 board feet and put it on pallets in the barn to dry .My father and uncle said poplar was only good for trim and cabinets but I wanted to prove them wrong .I made this honey house out of 100% poplar wood.
The only thing I found out was that it does get shake and seem to have quite a few dead knots which had to bee cut around .

Yellow poplar or aspen poplar?

WDH
I have always known them as just poplars. They grow straight as an arrow in the woods and very big and tall with deep furrowed thick bark .I do not think they are aspen poplars because of their size and not smooth bark.

Very nice Zeke
Aspen/poplar does get thick furrowed bark .
The bigger the tree gets in diameter.
It will have shake and dead knots in some.
