Hi I recently came a cross a Stihl 021 there is some scuffing on the cylinder and a bearing missing for the con rod - was wonder if the Stihl 023 engine assembly is interchangeable
Welcome to the scrum! 8) It should be a straight swap.

Because of the Larger piston diameter well I have to update the carb ?
AFAIK, they use the same carb. Why not clean up the cylinder with muriatic acid and Scotchbrite? A new piston and bearing you are good to go.

Missing a connecting rod roller bearing saw came on a box all dissembled
That's going to require a new crank/kit. That's unless you have some REALLY special tools. I hate to say, but if you had those kinds of tools you wouldn't be asking these questions.
Not trying to be mean, just realistic.
I assumed you are talking about the wrist pin bearing. If the big end then yeah it's not worth pursuing.

First off all I'm taking this from an IPL because I have never seen one of these .According to it the piston pin bearing is the same for both models--# 9512-003-2250 .The crank shaft end 1123-007-1005 .It shows two crankshafts ,one being what appears to be a pressed together type which uses a captive bearing which is a unit being the the crank plus the rod . and one other evidently that can be disassembled by some means that uses the afore mentioned bearing .
It's rather difficult to be specific just looking at an IPL and not seeing the actual item .Maybe the best bet for parts could be buying a junker off E-bay because it's unlikely this model would be either valuable or highly collectable .
I just looked at one on flea-bay ,cheap .From the picture it just looks like a bunch of open rollers but how you get them in place remains a mystery to me .I might see if I can find anything on my micro-fiche set later on today .What a strange way to build something ???
I assumed he had access to an 023.
Feel certain he is talking about the wrist pin bearing which any Stihl dealer will have or you can buy a knock off.
You can buy a whole Chinese engine for less than $40. They run OK, not sure for how long.
The saw is not worth spending much on, I have sold some good ones for $75.
