I was thinking of using 3ply LVL beam for the main opening on my sawmill shed. Is this a good or bad thought to have the middle LVL longer to be the tenon going into a post.
I used two 16" x 2.5" 21 foot LVLs for the opening under my over hang where the sawmill sets. The only caution I would make is the cover the exposed side/ends of the LVL to protect them from weather. They are not designed for prolonged exposure to the outside (rain/snow/etc) . I'm covering mine with metal to match my building.
I'm using LVLs on my mill shed loading side, but each end full has a full jack post supporting it. If you do as you described, I'd also have each end fully sitting on jack posts too.
