Hi
Has anyone used a snowmobile engine on a band mill? Any reason why one wouldn't work?
Thanks for any comments, just thinking.
Happy New Year
Torque is King on a sawmill. High RPM engines with lots of HP but low torque would not be as effective when the band hits hard cutting conditions.
Would be a lot of gearing down to deal with that's all I can think of, they must do 7k plus?
How big of a motor are we talking about? I would think a small snow mobile motor would be a BIG sawmill engine. Is it 2 or 4 stroke?
Sled engines need to rev to produce power, not ideal for a mill application. Couple that with steady operation under load in a warm environment it won't last long.
Someone has one on a Thomas bandsaw mill.
I have seen it in a FB group.
Who in his right mind would want to listen to that scream all day?
Brap Brap!😂😂
Where do you put the carbide studs? :D
The big thing is how log would they last running 8000 rpm where the make tier power. Steve
Thanks for the replies.
Just some winter thinking lol
Happy New Year to everyone, hope this is a good year for all.
Too bad 2-53's are so heavy.
A detroit is even further down the list of sounds i like.
What? What did you say? :D I rode shotgun in a bull nose KW with a screamin' jimmy and a straight pipe, conversation stopped when the jake kicked in.
Any chance you go by Earl and had on a load of USDA cluckers? :D
:D
