Title: Track extension advice for mill?
Post by: Lyndaker on February 03, 2021, 07:38:31 PM
I bought a DL 816 swing blade. It comes with enough track to just cut 16'. I need to be able to cut 30' for a log home build.  It came with Three 8' aluminum track sections. However at almost $1000 per section I can build a longer track for a fraction of that price.
So my question is what is the best type of tracks to build? The factory tracks are basically just an upside down 1x1 angle on top of channel (aluminum V). However it collect's more sawdust then I'd prefer in spite of sweeps. I'm wondering if I wouldn't just be better off with 3x3x1/4"  angle. It would be easy to build and I could easily bolt/weld the crosspieces and adjuster feet to it. Plus the 1/4" edge at top wouldn't collect much sawdust. I can get 4 20' angles for around $400 which gives me well over 30' of cut and only one joint per track section.

I forgot to mention. I'll set the new track sections up permanently and use the factory aluminum track for mobile cutting.
