Title: What do I call it?
Post by: handhewn on May 31, 2021, 03:39:11 PM
I am getting my circle saw back together. It is a mobile but when I ran it many years ago it never moved. Where the boards come off the saw, and you flop them down I used to have a round top wood post (approx) 6' away and probably just a couple inches lower than the off-rollers so say just below waist height. I would grab the end of the just cut board, drop it onto the post and pivot the board onto the edger or a set of rollers, truck bed etc. I moved the saw and now need to re-build the wood decking as needed. My question is, is there a name for such a post.

It's called a pivot post. Or if it's not called a pivot post it should be.

Most large sawmills in the deep south used a similar setup, also used on the output side of planers. The name used back then is now politically incorrect and would likely get me sent to the woodshed.  ;D
