Title: Husqavarna 235 stalls after a minute or so
Post by: john_ost on July 12, 2021, 04:41:24 PM
I was given a used Husqavarna 235.   It seems to stall frequently.   Often it stalls immediately or won't start at all.   I've gotten it to run for about a minute, but it seems weaker and weaker and then dies entirely.

I've replaced the carburator, filters, and spark plug.   Spark arrestor looks clean.

I tried opening and closing the fuel tank as well to make sure that it wasn't building up suction in there, but it still wouldn't run properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions what I should check next?

Remove the muffler and have a look at the piston for scoring or galling. Also check for a strong blue spark, the ignition module may be on its way out.

Probably scored Piston.

Thank you, I'll check those things!

Okay, so I looked at the piston and it looked fine to my untrained eye.   I also get a compression tester, which came in at 130, which if I understand it is enough to run but not great.   Could that be it?

I also replaced the coil on principle, and the spark looks good.

Any thoughts would be welcome

John

130 is on the low side for compression.

Pardon my being negative, but a 235 isn't worth this much effort. If that carb and coil are OEM @ $65 and $45, that's a lot to throw at one of these things. If they're cheap ebay stuff, who knows if they actually work properly or not. Even if you get this thing to run, it's a pretty unimpressive little saw.

You make a good point.

These are in fact cheap ebay parts, so so far I'm into this saw for $17.   And some time, which I don't really begrudge because I'm enjoying learning.

But your point is well taken

I see you replaced the carb, so forgive me if I'm asking the obvious; did you adjust/calibrate the screws afterwards?
