Title: Otherwise known as…
Post by: Tacotodd on August 09, 2021, 04:09:41 PM
I've been told that Silk Tree, aka memosa, is closely related to a cottonwood. Would anyone care to clear that response from my friend up for me as so to further my limited education on such matters?

I'm smart enough to know that I don't know, ya know  :P

Not related in the least.  Mimosa is a legume and has a pod (think long pea pod) for a fruit.  Cottonwood is in the genus Populus.   It's relatives are the aspens and balsam poplar.

Mimosa also has a unique leaf, a bi-pinnate compound leaf.  Not too may of those in the tree world.  Cottonwood has a simple leaf.

Thx, I'll be sure to share (show) that bit of information with (to) him. I was sure that they were different, but I don't know my trees nearly as well as you guys n gals. You've put my mind at ease.
