Hello Gents,
I am checking out a diesel powered 2010 woodmizer lt40 this week, this would be my first mill and was curious what I might look for as indicators of any problems. The previous owner passed away, so it is being sold by a family friend with no knowledge of the saw.
from the photos I cant access anymore, it seems to have a debarker, hydraulics
Get the Vin number off of one of the three stickers that are on it. Call Woodmizer Indianapolis and explain, they should be able to tell you what the total configuration of the sawmill is. Also they can tell you about parts ordering history and whether the ownership is legitimate.
From your description, there is very little that can be wrong with it and nothing that can't be easily corrected. Since it is Diesel powered it quite possibly is a SuperHydraulic which has two hydraulic pumps and larger power feed & up/down motors.
As just suggested, your call to Wood-Mizer should tell you exactly what it is.
YES run the numbers. Hours? Kept under cover? In this market don't move to slow and keep tight liped. WM should give you a ball park price. Good Luck and post pics if you buy.
I lucked out! The only thing wrong with the sawmill was that the water pump was fried so I will replace that for $114 from woodmizer. I dont want to brag too much but I realize just how fortunate I was in finding this deal at the right time and know how much easier life will be compared to using my granberg chainsaw mill. This beautiful and well maintained machine with a powerful diesel engine, that was kept indoors most of its life, became mine for only $21,500
