Title: Need help with a ponsse hs16 ergo
Post by: Snowmobiler14 on December 08, 2021, 07:11:35 PM
Hey all, I just bought my first harvester and haven't ran a tire machine like this before. It's a older ponsse hs16 ergo and I can drive it but I don't know how to get the head turned on or the computer. Would anyone know how to slowly get this thing cutting? I tried uploading some pictures of the controls but my pictures aren't the right file type for some reason

My very strong suggestion is to call the technical support line at Ponsse.  Just call the general number and ask for technical support.  They'll walk you through everything on the phone and can maybe get you a manual.

The best thing, to me, about the Ponsse's is the support.  Make use of it.  You don't have to have bought it from them, they'll answer your questions.  I would be prepared with the serial numbers and things like that.

What computer system? The old Ponsse 1000 system with 2 small LCD screens for the length and diameter? Or the "newer" Opti system with a windows based PC and a larger computer screen? What head and crane?

Assuming the "bobble" head controls? Depending how its setup on the right hand control iirc the 4th button down will "wake" the head, and also stand the head up.

Thanks guys I got that issue figured out. I'm putting a new bar and chain in the harvester head today but can't seem to get enough slack to put it back together. Is it a manual chain adjuster somewhere?

If its a manual adjuster there is a large bolt with a cam adjuster under it. You back the bolt off and rock the cam back, install chain, tighten cam up, tighten bolt while holding cam tight.

If you have the bar removed then it should be slacked off.

Are you sure you have the correct chain length?

Which head? Even within the same head there was a few different bar mounts and setups.

Does it have two plates that you sandwich onto the bar with 2 smaller bolts?

Hey we're trying to figure out a wiring problem with the machine. Where is the jack to lift the cab on this hs16?

I don't know, but make a call to any of Ponsse's service centers and a tech will help you out.

Yeah ive called ponsse a couple times in the past couple days. Haven't been able to reach a tech because they've been busy. I guess I can keep calling I was just seeing if anybody else could help until I can get ahold of one of ponsses techs.

Been a long time since I've looked at one of those old girls but iirc the cab jack is under one of the side doors next to the hood.

One more question where do you put bar oil in the h73 head? I'm cutting today and ponsse is closed until Monday otherwise I would just shoot them a call. Thanks for the help in advance!

When the head is laid down just below where the yellow tin cover stops there should be a ~2" pipe plug in the gray steel frame that you remove.
