Title: Beam questions for a shed
Post by: shawn55 on January 19, 2022, 09:18:44 PM
Looking for a little help on this topic  I'm looking at building a shed for my sawmill and want to saw white oak post and beams. Obviously the wood is green And what is everybody using for lagging screws With the green lumber. Looking at 8x8 post for the coroner's which would be white oak and the roof was thinking about 2x6 made out of white ash. I need to span 20ft on the front so was thinking of a 5"x14"x 22' white oak header. Any thoughts would be great.

That sounds light. 20' beam span, need a little more, how wide is the building from this beam to the back wall. Mn... what is your snow load in lbs per square foot?

Is there any way that you can turn that header into some sort of a truss?  Or possibly sandwich a piece of steel in between wood, (flitch plate).

Or, as a third thought, you can put a temporary post in the middle, and take it out when you need to get long stuff on the mill.
