I made an improvement (hopefully) to the main door on the kiln. The original seal I made for it wasn't great to begin with. The 2 inch flat bar will provide rigidity and the pipe insulation will provide the seal.

I like it. What does the steel look like before you put the foam on it? How is it mounted?

I drilled holes for screwing the plate in place against the framing.

In the picture below you can see the pine planks that make up the door. Well they have cupped a bit over time, and shrunk in width.

So those gaps will still allow air to leak. My possible solution to that will be to cut back one inch from the end of the pine boards and replace it with a 1 inch strip of wood so the foam will have a solid flat surface to contact with. Sound good in theory.
