Title: Will Weinig knives work in a Woodmaster?
Post by: JamieK on May 01, 2022, 09:28:19 PM
Well guys the title says it all. I recently purchased a used woodmaster so I'm still learning about it. I currently have an option to purchase a  bunch of moulding knives from a Weinig moulding machine. Will these knives fit and work properly in a Woodmaster. Some of the knives have grooves in them but all of them have holes for bolting them in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WM4000? What size are the knives?

I'm not familiar with either of these machines. I will add that the ones with grooves in them will need heads that have the same grooves to best run them. They are what I use in my Pinhero machine. Are any heads coming with the knives? If they are make sure they have the same size bore. I would not expect them to as you are taking them from a production machine to a smaller shop type machine.

The Weinig knives that I have are all standard 60 degree corrugated back 5/16" thick.  I think Woodmaster sells an optional moulder head that will except these....call Woodmaster and talk to a tech.  Knife projection is also a consideration.

I don't know what the holes are for unless they also used the knives in a Williams & Hussy.

Since Weinig is a production machine its common to find knives with inlayed carbide.  High dollar and they run forever.

The woodmaster i have is a 718. I don't know what size the knives are just that they used a weinig moulding machine. So basically the thickness is the same. The only potential for not working is the projection from the head.  I made a mistake about the holes. Most do not have any holes

I would call Barry at Woodmaster.  That's a different system than my 4000 uses.

I don't know if you can swing them, but from those patterns behind the knives... there's a profile grinder in that shop. If he's parting out I'd check on that. There are 2 corrugated pitches that I know of, make sure you match.

This is a page showing weinig's manual grinder;
