Title: beam strength
Post by: Hemlock121 on August 16, 2022, 10:13:00 AM
Hi. Im in the process of getting a mill so I can build small projects.  One of the thoughts is to build a 8x14 woodshed with the last 6' for my ATV.

Is there any difference in beam strength if the beam is cut out of a 30" tree or a 15" tree, provided they both contain 100% heart wood?

thank you,

Grade quality will most likely depend on knots (size and locations). 15" may have bigger knots (in the final timber). All depends on where the tree grew.
Good luck with your projects.
