Title: Clark 665D Axles
Post by: BurkettvilleBob on August 29, 2022, 08:15:49 PM
Does anyone know what axles are under a 665D and where I might find a breakdown of the axle assembly?

A picture would be worth at least 100 words, but looked at a machine with suspicious rustholes on what whatever part attaches to the outboard end of the axle tube. I'm wondering if water and dirt entering there is damaging wheel bearings.

Pull the the drain plug on the outboard planetary unit. If the oil is milky it has water in it. If the magnet on the drain plug has a large "icicle" of ground up metal filings stuck to it that is a sure sign of either wheel bearing or planetary gear train failure. In my experience the gear train failed first.

Good idea, thanks.
