Got the OS31 running. Had some Ash I had saved. Emerald ash borer are killing all my ash on my property. Hope to get it milled and heat treated to kill the bugs.
The 0S31 was very easy to run. Really looking forward to getting some more time on it.

That is looking good. Congrats! Any ideas for usage?
Great news! Congratulations!
Are you hooked? :D
Congratulations !!
Save that first board and make a sign or something. I wish that I had.
Good idea on the sign. Hooked? I now want to cut anything I see with knots a d curls...or pretty much anything!
I may make a live edge type stool or something. The heart wood split ,but would look real good with some walnut butterflies and epoxy in the crack.
When I cut the rest of the Ash down, I will end seal it and saw it up to make cabinets for our new house. These pieces had some big knots and were just 48" long.
Very satisfying. Now I got to drop some poplar to make stickers and finish my fetching arch.
Congratulations on your newfound passion / addiction. You are fortunate to have found this forum so early in your sawing journey. I sawed for 15+ years before I found the Forestry Forum and quickly realized how much I didn't know. I find that I learn something every time I log in.
Congratulations! It's amazing what a little sawdust can do to man's future.
:D I don't remember who here told me first but it's repeated occasionally.
"You will never look at a tree the same."
That and trips to the big box stores lumber section will now include a lot of head shaking and calling your significant other over to say "Would you look at this excuse for what they call lumber here!" :D
Fortunately for me, my significant other was the driving force for me to get my sawmill! I made the mistake of telling her I could fix or build anything when we got married....
We bought an Appalachian chink style log house and she wanted a new kitchen... I did the remodel including building the island and bar. She bought the lumber and then covid hit and she nearly had a coronary buying lumber...
Now I have a mill, 13 acres of woods, a mountain top with a million dollar view, and a wife that wants a new house on the mountain top!
My dad and I both have always wanted a mill for the farm.
That's the "Honey do hot place!"
I've most recently been there in a bathroom renovation. I'm "getting to" finish her closet today. :) She's supervising very closely. :D
Next will be our bedroom renovation.
Neither project has much to do with sawmilling. Later on the living room, dining room and kitchen will benefit from the sawmill if it ever gets here.
I don't know how my wife found out I can build and fix stuff too. It might have something to do with fixing her daddy's mowing machine in my Sunday clothes. :o :D
I had been at a job interview and we were staying with her parents. The sickle mower wasn't cutting despite having new blades. He came in frustrated and hot both figuratively and literally because it wouldn't cut.
My FIL was calling others who had similar machines. He wasn't a very mechanical minded farmer. He did just enough to get by.
I went out and examined it. All I did was tighten a belt by turning two nuts. You'd have thought I invented the thing by his and my wife's reaction.
That was 38 years ago. I'm still fixing stuff here in the farm.
No good deed goes unpunished. :D
It's turned out to be a life sentence... :D :D
I always look forward to sawing.
8) Congratulations!!!
Congrats! Welcome to the addiction. I don't see any bacterial rot in your Ash. You'll see the off color when it is there. Remember to mill your Ash quickly and keep it off the ground so you don't get bacterial rot. Also any Cherry needs to be milled quickly. Cherry probably rots faster than anything. Probably because of all the sugar in it and how easily it takes up water.
I dropped off an ash at the mill today. 4 logs, hope to mill them up if weather holds this weekend. I have to mill some stickers first and going to use Poplar fir that. Going to try to mill up enough stickers to stack a large pile so they can be drying.
Congrats!!!! Every log is an adventure..... especially those with metal! :D :(
Listen to MagicMan (I did!) and grab your first good board cut on your mill and jot down the date. When you create your millshed, you can hang these boards by the mill. I have two of them hanging my my millshed and smile every time they catch my eyes!
Enjoy the dust! :)
Neat work!
Let's see pictures of the kitchen and view!

Count your blessings, as you get to go home at night.

Congratulations 8)
Looks like a nice mill.
You will learn a lot real quick.
You used to see trees, now you see lumber.
Hahaha! Suddenly, lumber will become much less valuable to you since you can always make more. But now logs will be a precious commodity.
@Broncman (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=61994) - Congrats on your first milling project. Since the end-year break, I have yet to have a chance to get stuck in. Probably a good time with our winter in NZ on its way.
It sounds like @MagicMan is onto something with dating your first cut boards and hanging them up. I may start doing that and hang it out in the workshop.
