I've only seen this go for pulp. Anyone mill it? I've seen some burned for junk also, but never have thrown a log on the mill. Any experiences?
We saw it ocasionally. It gets lumped in with cottonwood or low grade aspen or popple. Seems to have the same characteristics of cottonwood. Not bad for utility lumber, if you get it with out shake.
Where I have seen it used, is as a craft wood like they use cypress. There is an artist over in gladwin named Joe Lathrop that creates beautiful tables out of "cookies" cut from "Bam". He paints outdoor scenes on them, then uses that real thick polyurethane to seal it. Looks like its a quarter inch deep. Uses other parts of the tree to create a table base. If you have ever saw Michigan Magazine on PBS he has been featured.
I thought "Balm of Gilead" was just a song.
