My 5410 power reverser won't shift out of reverse. I can get it to shift o neutral by shifting the arm on the side of the transmission but it will not go into forward. The shift control lever at the drivers control panel moves forward like it's trying to shift to forward and neutral but won't go all the way down to the reverse position. When I put it up to the forward position it is still in reverse. Any ideas?
Got it. The shift cable had come out of it.s clamp. Put it back in place and tightened every thing up. Now working as it should.
Glad it was that simple.
I rebuilt the entire reverser and reverse brake assemblies in my 1979 2640, replacing every plate, seal, and any moving part in front of the rear end.
I'm glad yours was something simple on the outside.
Wow you got lucky. Those 5410 power reversing transmission parts are expensive. Dealt with one this winter. Glad it was an easy fix.
I had feared the worst. A couple of days ago it started sticking in forward occasionally but I could work it a little and it would shift. This morning it went into reverse and wouldn't come back out. I tried a google search and found no useful info so my next step was to come to the best source of info which is here on the forum. While waiting for someone to reply I went and gave it another look and noticed the cable was not right. Whew.
