Hello
Need some advice on the rafter foot to plate connection. Plates extend 14" beyond the gable ends and on this external edge there'll be a step-lap rafter foot to plate connection with the rafter tail then extending a bit beyond the plate. The rest of the building will be insulated and I would like to avoid having rafter tails interrupting the main building envelop and insulation. So the question is would it be OK to just use a step lap connection anyway and just have no extending rafter tails (I'll add sprockets after insulation for an overhang) or should I use a different join if I'm not fashioning a contiguous rafter tail?
Thank you
