database error massage when trying to post??

what was the error and what was you trying to post? Was you quoting? attaching? anything other than text? What board?

Same problem.

Was this replies to pm or a post. Dont try and reply to those first pms. Make a new pm, delete the old one. Seems to be working so far

On your longer posta are you typing in something else then pasting into the forum, or are you typing it all in?

Do you see questionarks in your posts? Are you using phone smilies? If so, only you can see them.

No not using any smiles.

Question mark is taking place of apostrophe for some reason.It looks correct when typing.

Using Dell laptop. Deleted cookies, history, passwords and shut off and re-opened.

Over 2-3 lines fails in reply on General Board for how to store heavy slabs.

Tried photo copy and paste from folder on PC and get message file too large. Same size jpg been posting for years.

Saved reply and tried copy and paste but a couple para and db error. Is length of post limited?

What is @lurk? Is that software or something or less pleasant reply to something I did wrong?

Lurk is our member that is also a smf support guy. He is trying to help us on this.

did you LOG OUT before you went and deleted all old cache AND cookies?

When I try to make a post I go to the board, then thread, open it, click on reply and post if that is what you were asking.

This one I think I can help you with Howard.
The old system would automatically re-size your photo when you put it in your gallery to keep the overall file sizes down. You didn't know about, or even see this, it just happened. The new system will not do this for you, so you have to re-size your photos before uploading them. The photo size has to be under 2MB for each photo with a combined max of about 9somethingMB for the post. There is a running counter in the bottom of that frame you can watch.
Also, I have not tried 'copy and paste' with photos, I just drag them right into that window. It's a new world and we are all trying to figure out the rules to get along. We will get there.

I log off the Forum every time I enter exit - now. I used to stay logged on. If there are other files I need to delete I don't know what/where they are. It's hard being a dinosaur but someone has to do it. ::)

Last night I had the same database error trouble, although it didn't give me a free massage.

That was on very old android phone running chrome browser. Laptop with firefox had no troubles and seems to still have no trouble. I will try the phone again later today.

Tom, I read and hit like. I'll try when can post more than one line. I got DB error here when I added 2nd line.

I wonder if hitting the enter key for new line is a factor?

Oddly, once I got the error, I wasn't able to reply or modify my previous reply, either long or short, without exiting entirely, logging back in, and typing this I f this is getting though.

I tried to reply to Jeff's "NIghtmare" topic this morning and kept getting the "db" error.  After multiple attempts, I finally abandoned the reply.  That is my only recent bad experience and I chalk it up to a "whatever" that needs no investigation.  It was two paragraphs long but that does not even compare to some of OGH's replies.  ;)   

I am always on a Mac laptop.

Thanks, but my mind is such that I can only write something once and then "my" database is empty.  Actually I had copied it thinking that if there was a failure I could paste, but that did not work either.

I'm real sensitive and live in fear of rejection so repeating and getting another db fail traumatizes me.

I didn't mean ya'll I meant my post, but still feel free to feel the angst along with me.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I get the errors under Chrome browser (cookies / cleared cache / logged in again etc). But posting under Firefox on the same PC seems to work fine, at least no errors yet, and I can attach pictures and edit posts normally.

Forget that, Firefox started throwing the same errors.

I'm using mircrosoft edge 10 on my laptop and this is a test to see if I have any issues with posting a message on the thread. Not that I have noticed but I haven't posted anything lately. I've just been reading about everyone else. What they have done and what issues they have run into. I don't usually view the forum on my phone. But have in the past when I get an email saying that I have a pm and I have the laptop shut down for the evening.

After Ian's Chrome comment I tried pasting 9 line post in Edge and still got db error. I guess 1 line is it for me.

I looked up the error online and came across another post that said that one cause was the database language(ascii characters) were not all set to UTF-8.  One error read /xC2 which is a Latin Capital A with circumflex(little squiggly line above it).  Also, I just attempted to use the modify selection under more... and got a DB error.  Quick edit does not throw the error. What does the log show?

I posted a 13 line post, short lines with carriage returns on my custom rifle topic no problem.  When I tried to type in a few lines from a Tale of Two cities with no carriage returns, it didn't take it.  Not sure if that helps or muddies the waters.

Sounds like it may be configuration error on the length of the strings allowed by the code.  Hopefully there is something in the log files about what error is being thrown.

[Nfo]I was having a lot of trouble with the winch, just free spooling. Not a big guy, it was all I had to put a foot against butt plate and spool off 6ft at a time. Obviously not going to move any wood that way and most trees are a ways from the trail. Took it apart a few times and adjusted, played with valve and cable but just couldn't make it better.

Yesterday it was too warm to skid so after work I took it apart AGAIN. A lot of head scratching and wrench turning and staring at the book later I figured it out but had to run to town for parts. I hope nobody needs a fine thread 7/16 nut because I bought the last one in a 20 mile radius and just that one nut fixed it so it is perfect.

Someone had the winch apart and left out the "special nut" on the slave cylinder. With that nut missing the stroke of the cylinder isn't long enough to fully release the brake band.

Now I know why the seller had custom wrenches he could find in 30sec and asked if I had ever adjusted one of these winches, and another time said he was getting too old to pull the cable. One missing nut. Honestly probably why he sold the skidder [/nfo]

I might have something. When I type a sentence I always put two spaces after the period. If I do as normal and hit the preview it just sits there. If I than hit the post button I get the dreaded database error.

When I only put one space after the period at the end of the sentence it will preview as it should. Hit the post and it goes as it should. Tested a few times and I believe this is fact not chance.

Testing Preview function - works here. Did not work in General board when I pasted 9 lines in. Just froze.

I was having a lot of trouble with the winch, just free spooling. Not a big guy, it was all I had to put a foot against butt plate and spool off 6ft at a time. Obviously not going to move any wood that way and most trees are a ways from the trail. Took it apart a few times and adjusted, played with valve and cable but just couldn't make it better.

Yesterday it was too warm to skid so after work I took it apart AGAIN. A lot of head scratching and wrench turning and staring at the book later I figured it out but had to run to town for parts. I hope nobody needs a fine thread 7/16 nut because I bought the last one in a 20 mile radius and just that one nut fixed it so it is perfect.

Someone had the winch apart and left out the "special nut" on the slave cylinder. With that nut missing the stroke of the cylinder isn't long enough to fully release the brake band.

Now I know why the seller had custom wrenches he could find in 30sec and asked if I had ever adjusted one of these winches, and another time said he was getting too old to pull the cable. One missing nut. Honestly probably why he sold the skidder

Try this, because it just broke for me: Find a longsh pre-upgrade post and copy the text, then paste it in a reply. I could not get that to post.

Well, just for the record we got 8" measured snow which was really about 10" of heavy wet stuff. I killed most of Monday cleaning it up. The Mule worked well, but it's getting time for a new battery so just to be safe, I put it on a charger just to keep it topped off when I take breaks. The winch pulls a lot lifting the plow.
Monday I ordered new flocking and adhesive to replace the crap I got shafted with the first time and Tuesday morning I got the ship notification, so I guess I bought one of the last cans they had, seems to be a big shortage at all suppliers of the green stuff.
Tuesday we got about 1.5" of snow just before the heavy rain started. I mistakenly did not take a swipe around to get that snow cleared thinking the rain would do it. It did not in most cases and that snow held the rain water in place. The yard is a real mess. We got nearly 3" of rain between yesterday afternoon and this morning. I ain't touching it now, the ground is too soft.
After ruining one of my boxes with that crap flocking I was a little down. Yesterday I attempted to save it with limited results, today I will try some more. I did a few minutes work on another project idea I have, but really have low energy and with the firewood dwindling, the shop is not warm as comfy as I would like it to be.
So I came in the house and decided to get my upcoming logs orders organized in my book and sort out all the emails. I did some follow up emails to clients who had not nailed down their quantities yet and also folks who made the first inquiry but never pulled the trigger. Lastly I emailed a few regular winter buyers to check in and got answers back there too. Some got back right away, one I am still waiting on. I picked up some orders from the older clients who had forgotten the time of year.
All told I am looking at 450-500 logs in the books, so I have my work cut out for me. But I have the clients well informed and they are flexible understanding my weather constraints. I want to wait a few more weeks before I start, hoping it gets colder for a bit. It's just too warm yet. Anyway, that income will put a dent in some expenses and maybe I can keep a little of it on the side for that trailer.
Last week I called for a quote for a custom belt for the drum sander and didn't hear back, so yesterday I called back and got a recording. Tried again this morning and talked with the same gal, she said they didn't have the quote yet. I asked 'if it takes 5 days to get a quote, how long does it take to get the belt?' She said about 2 weeks. My enthusiasm is waning. I did get a quote from Kingspor's for $118.00 but the caveat they put at the bottom of the quote gives me pause:

"The belt is a polyester material with a butt spliced/glue/taped joint.
As mentioned yesterday, we cannot guarantee tracking; therefore, no returns or exchanges."

A follow up email told me it takes them about 4 days to get the belt made. So now I have to decide if I want to go that way, or wait for the other guys (SuperGrit) and see what they come up with. It's not my money I'm spending, but I want it to be right and work because it is about 6 hours to change the belt and get the machine back together.

Today I am still in that funky blue mood. It's grey out, 40° and everything is a sloppy mess. Having a hard time getting excited about anything, but it is another day, so...

It Appears whatever you did fixed 'it', whatever 'it' is, or was.

A woodworker can never have too many clamps.  I may be an exception to that rule.....tons of clamps of every style and most brands.

These are my favorites.  Pony 72's and old Hargraves.  Made in the USA, mostly bought at auctions or estate sales so they give me a connection to woodworkers in the past.

I do use my "K" bodies a lot.  Favorite is the scarce Stanleys, than Jorgy Cabinet Masters, and of course Bessy's.  I've applied hockey tape to the handles on the Jorgy's and the Bessy's.  I do not have any of the newer Revos so I guess I could add a few just to round things out.


Above is the exact post that I tried putting in the woodworking forum yesterday many times when I discovered extra spaces would prevent a preview.  I learned to type on a typewriter (antique writing machine) and one always put two spaces behind the period.  As soon as I got rid of the extra space I could preview so I knew it was a software problem and not really a space problem.  All of the sentences in this post end with two spaces so I guess you smart guys fixed it, thanks.
