On some Thursday mornings I go to a Vets Cafe for coffee and pastries and stories with other Vets, most in their 70s-80s. Hunting and fishing are common subjects and one fellow Navy Vet that's wheelchair bound said he hasn't been fishing in many years. I saw an article about a special built charter boat on the Chesapeake that can handle wheelchairs so I made a call then talked to some guys from the group and I have us booked for a trip August 19th. There will be 6 of us with only one guy in his 60s and the rest of us 70s or 80s. The boat "FishRedeemer" is a nonprofit and makes special deals for Veterans, if this works as well as I hope it may become a regular happening. Look up "FishRedeemer" to see the boat and then wish us well.
You done good!!! super-smiley wheeliechair
I checked the website. It's an awesome service the captain/owners are providing. Their rates are phenomenally LOW as well!
I'm hoping you have good weather and tight lines!
Well done! Should be a great outing for the Vets.
Good on ya mate! You've done something really nice there! Did my heart a world of god just reading that. I hope the day is a real big one and leads to more repeats. That's just a wonderful story!
I tilt a beer in your honor sir!
What a great thing you are doing for your friend. The boat prices look outstanding. Good luck.
That is just awesome!
We've had Wounded Warriors goose hunting on our place. But not everyone wants to hunt, while I'd go on the boat even if I didn't want to fish.
Trip is comeing up soon, I sent the final payments last week. Aside from the boat I reserved a handi-cap accsesable house for 2 nights right next to the boat. Both the boat and house are run as 501c charitys so the prices are great. I will report on the trip afterwards.
We did the trip this week and we are all happy, except for one guy that got sick a few days before we left and had to cancel :veryangry:, hope he can make the next one. There were 5 of us veterans plus the captain and 2 mates meaning 8 people on board. We started out trolling for blues and caught our limit of 40 (5 each) and then trolled for spanish mackeral, I believe we had 20+ of them. The blues were small but thats better eating and mainly we were there for the trip. The mates were very good and especially attentive with Bob our wheelchair bound buddy, he reeled in over a dozen fish before calling it quits with a tired arm ffcool . The mates filleted and bagged our fish then gave us each a hat and t-shirt. The house was also great so obviously I'm already checking dates for a fall rockfish trip. I wish I could post pics but I just can't, anyone want some texted to them send me a number.
Sounds like a great time!!!!
So happy it was a good trip with good "catching" to boot!
Developing a regular relationship with a charter crew often results in special treatment in time.
For those of you that look at Face Book, if you go to the Fish Redeemer site they have posted a few pics of us. I'm the big dude with a USS O'Brien T-shirt.
Great catch! That's a pile of Spanish and bluefish!
Looks as if everyone had a great time. Good on you.
