Post by: Mack on October 11, 2024, 04:06:09 PM
Anyone heard any info on the Stihl Ms 400.1?

There is a lot of reading on the web.  It looks like a redesigned case and an aluminum piston rather than magnesium.  Apparently it will be the "M" version and the new MS363 will be the "tuned" version of Stihl's ~60cc saws.  ??

I have a MS 400CM and have been very happy with it. I don't know how Stihl could improve on it. What I've been hearing is that they may have moved away from the magnesium piston and done something else internally. The cc's actually decreased in the new model but I can't remember the details.. likely something to do with epa regulation?

I have the 400cm as well. It's an impressive saw. Seems better the more I use it.

Spent an hour or so on it today bucking firewood. It tears through the firewood pile in no time.

Thank you! I had a 400 and had a lot of problems with it oiling.

Absolutely. I am 15, and I bought mine in the spring. It was a little pricey, and it took me a bit to save up my candy money to purchase it. I love mine. Although this may be controversial, I believe the 400 may be one of the best chainsaws ever made.

The MS 363 will be the version for S.E. Asia and South American markets. Both the 400.1 and 363 will have METAL handles for once!

I made an entire video here about the 400.1:

Thanks for the reminder! I'm ordering a upgrade oiler for mine as it's a bit stingy with the 25" bar/chain.

Good video and welcome to the FF.

I started using saws at your age and will point something out, i don't know if you wanna be a youtuber (which seems to be the goal of your generation) or if you really want to work with chainsaws and Timber in the future. Be careful with chainsaws, use your ppe, i was a hothead at your age and did a lot of stupid stuff. learn how to use them correctly and control your emotions, it's the most dangerous tool out there in my opinion. be safe and have fun. the woods will give you back a lot over the years if you decide to work in them

Thanks! I love saws and being in the woods. I am hoping to soon purchase and have an Echo 2511 WES ported from a friend in Finland. Thanks for the compliment in the video.

I honestly didn't think it was that much of an upgrade over the 362c. All personal preference but I actually preferred my 362c over the 400.

Great video!

I bought my MS400C two years ago and love it.  I won't be in the market for a new saw anytime soon.  I like how light the new 400.1 is.

There is alot of differences between the old 400 and the new 400, lot of parts will not fit the other saw, new 400 has a smaller motor than the old 400, Now one thing that bothers me and I know its only me but why would any person put the white letters on the saw badge , that looks real cheap to me and I for one am not running a cheap looking saw

Yeah, I'm not overly crazy about the white lettering either.  But if I was in the market for another 60cc class saw, at 12.0 lbs. and 5.23 HP and as good as I've seen them run in different video's, I could easily live with the white letters.  :wink_2:
